Food, food, food. It is one of the modern highlights of this complex world we live in 2024. On the eve of St. Patrick's Day (tomorrow), even though alcoholic drink is usually the order-of-the-day on that special celebration, you might find yourself eating something green tomorrow, too. Being Americans, it is almost impossible to escape being bombed by food advertising, every time we turn around, and especially when we surf our trusty television channels or our personal devices.
I certainly don't remember it always being that way, as I grew up in Our Town long, long ago. Yes, it is true our 1950's black and white television sets, classically situated in our "living" or front rooms, did have occasional commercials for Folgers Coffee, Swanson TV Dinners, Twinkies, or Wonder Bread. However, those advertisements were a mere fraction of what we are confronted with constantly on today's bazillion channel choices. Whether it is pizza, burgers, fried chicken, or any number of national chain restaurants, I am not sure who wins the battle for the most tv ads today, food or pharmaceutical products? Take your pick, readers in Our Town or wherever you are far beyond?
Of course, today's foodies are everywhere, with the networks' overwhelming choices of food preparation/cooking shows. These productions are widespread, and mostly consist of competition-type shows, where hopeful-chef A is trying his/her best to out-perform hopeful chefs B, C, E, etc. The winner is usually decided by professional chefs X,Y, and Z. I am not 100-percent sure, but suspect (?) my bride, Lady Deborah, has tried a few food dishes on her unsuspecting husband she had previously seen on a tv cooking show? To adequately cover myself, I am sure I told her the food was absolutely delicious, too! Remember, folks, when mother isn't happy, no one is happy.
And, now, restaurant comparisons in today's opinionated world? Well, simply put, eating out and judging the food can sound like a doctorate thesis if you ask a foodie about his/her dining experience? Sometimes, I feel I need a program to follow when I ask one of those folks just how did they enjoyed their restaurant meal? Occasionally, their simple "Good" or "Not Good" answer is relayed to me!
Oh, well, since my father, Col. C.H. Breedlove, claimed he was the "Best Fry-Cook in Payne County", I grew up in Our Town eating all things buried in hot, popping grease. Looking at my current waistline, I have never not been "all-in" for food. The truth is the truth is the truth. Just sayin'.
