I have never been accused of being a boring person by anyone on Planet Earth.
My family knows I am fully capable of occasionally spicing up life's routine situations with a little unusual behavior. Sometimes, I enjoy the unpredictable.
Thus, the topic of this week's discussion, my first pedicure.
Whaaaat did you say?
Yes, after 7-plus decades, this ol' silverback was recently invited by my bride, Lady Deborah, to join her for a dual pedicure session at a local nail salon.
What an experience for yours truly! Yes, I have thought of myself over the years as a man's man. That hasn't changed; I STILL do!
In an effort for full disclosure, I have enjoyed professional body massages over the years, but not often. Each time I have had a body massage, I was rendered totally relaxed afterward. As I recall, it was somewhat difficult for me to stand up each time I got off the massage table. My wobbly legs almost were unable to support my "relaxed" body weight. Many times in the past, I have been encouraged to "expand my horizons", and get a pedicure. However, until recently, I just was unable to gain the necessary courage to actually go, and present my feet to the nail technician for their expert service.
So, Ms. Debbie and I rode together from our home to Nails & Spa, so my long-awaited experience could be realized. Only then, could I mark this particular wish off my "to do list".
When we walked through the door, the salon was busy, especially for a mid-week afternoon in Our Town. We were greeted by a staff member, my bride signed us in the front register, and we took a seat in their nearby reception area. After a brief wait, Mimi, the female part of the wife/husband salon owners, escorted me to her treatment chair. Thus began my 30-minute "spring menu" pedicure, featuring lavender lotion, expertly applied by the 30-year-old Vietnam native, Mimi. She is small in stature, but strong in her hand/arm strength, as she vigorously massaged my lower legs, after carefully trimming my toenails.. Several times during my treatment session, my feet were either soaking in warm water, wrapped in warm towels, or both. In true journalistic fashion, I asked Mimi many questions about various topics, with emphasis during our conversation about facts that could help me build my knowledge-base concerning her business venture. Being the world traveler I am, I also talked with Mimi briefly about Asia. I did take some time to relax in my treatment chair, and Ms. Debbie recorded the entire event from start to finish, thanks to her trusty cell phone camera. In fact, my bride from the beginning of our session, contacted two of our children, and informed them of our salon progress, via texting and photos. The back and forth cell phone transmissions among all participants, brought a great deal of amusement and laughter. Not sure if I was the object of their humor or not, but I must admit, I did enjoy the family banter back and forth. Mimi appeared to enjoy our family's humorous moments, too.
Eventually, all good things have an end point, so, I put on my shoes, thanked my host, Mimi, and my spouse, for asking/prodding me to get my first pedicure.
Will I return for another, then another, then another, and eventually pedicures will become habit-forming for me?
Possibly; but, don't forget, dear readers in Our Town and far beyond, frequently, I am totally unpredictable.
